Prairie State Legal Services is an organization that offers free legal services for low income persons and those age 60 and over who have serious civil legal problems and need legal help to solve them.
The mission of Prairie State Legal Services, Inc. is to ensure equal access to justice and fair treatment under the law by providing legal advice and representation, advocacy, education, and outreach that serve to protect basic human needs and enforce or uphold rights.
You must meet their income and asset guidelines, or be of age 60 or older. Generally, a client is eligible if his or her household income is less than 125% of the federal poverty level.
Prairie State may be able to assist persons whose income is up to 200% of poverty level if the household has certain expenses.
They do not handle criminal, immigration, personal injury, malpractice, workers' comp, traffic violations or probate legal issues.
Prairie State's standard hours of operation are from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Telephone Counseling Service (TCS) hours of operation are: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday.
