The mission of East Tennessee Legal Aid is to ensure equal justice for the elderly, abused and low-income persons by providing a wide range of civil legal assistance and advocacy services.
LAET provides civil legal services ranging from information and advice to complex litigation and legal assistance in appeal proceedings for low-income individuals.
It presents a wide variety of law-related topics to low-income groups, non-profit organizations and others in the community through their Speakers Bureau.
As part of its public education and outreach efforts, LAET also organizes a display of information brochures in courthouses throughout East Tennessee.
It has special programs for seniors and victims of domestic violence that, as funding sources allow, can be offered to those whose income and/or assets exceed the limitations of most of their services.
LAET also provides funding and staff for Pro Bono programs that recruit, support and utilize volunteer attorneys and other professionals that allow them to expand their services.
