The mission of Legal Aid of East Tennessee is to ensure equal justice for the elderly, abused and low-income by providing a wide range of civil legal assistance and advocacy.
LAET provides legal services in the field of civil law, ranging from information and advice, through complex court proceedings and appellate barristers, to people on low incomes.
The LAET presents a wide variety of topics related to rights to low-income groups, nonprofits and others in the community through its Speakers Bureau.
As part of its community education and outreach efforts, LAET has posted brochures in East Tennessee courthouses.
LAET has special programs for seniors and victims of domestic violence, but these programs can be provided to those whose income and assets exceed the majority of service limitations because they are authorized by the funding source.
LAET also funds and staffs Pro Bono projects that recruit, support and utilize volunteer attorneys and other professionals to expand services.
