Description

Legal Aid of North Carolina is a statewide, nonprofit law firm that provides free legal services in civil matters to low-income people in order to ensure equal access to justice and to remove legal barriers to economic opportunity.

They provide free legal help to low-income North Carolinians in civil cases involving basic human needs like safety, shelter, income and more.

They do not handle criminal cases or civil cases on behalf of prisoners.

They do not handle personal injury cases or traffic cases.

They do not handle

• divorce
• alimony
• spousal support and equitable distribution cases except in extraordinary circumstances (learn about our free do-it-yourself divorce clinics).

They do not handle immigration cases except those involving domestic violence and human trafficking.

They do not handle new applications for government benefits.
