Legal Aid Western Virginia (LAWV) is a major provider of government legal aid and legal services.
Their mission is to ensure that the most vulnerable among them- low-income families, the elderly, victims of domestic violence, the disabled - have equal opportunities for justice in the courtroom and in their communities.
The Legal Aid Agency accepts grants so they can help free of charge.
They do not charge a fee for their services, but if they accept your case you may have to pay some court fees or other related charges.
To get help from lawyers and Legal Aid staff, you must generally meet certain eligibility requirements.
Generally, you must be considered a victim of low income or domestic violence to qualify for help from their civil legal aid program.
There are exceptions, but if you're not sure, go ahead and call and apply.
