General assistance
Legal Aid provides direct representation to clients in several substantive practice areas.
Domestic Violence and Family Law.
They help survivors of domestic violence obtain short and long-term safety and stability for themselves and their children by securing protection orders and custody orders.
They also help clients to obtain divorce, care, alimony awards, parental plans and alimony orders.
Legal Aid for Collier Kids:
Legal Aid lawyers represent children at the Dependency Court who have been abused
Neglected and/or abandoned.
Representation of children in a court of law in cases of dependants is made only by appointment of the court.
Public Benefits for the Elderly
Veterans and Disabled:
Your Public Benefits Unit offers assistance to the elderly, veterans, disabled and others in need who are facing problems related to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security Disability and SSI, VA Benefits, Unemployment Compensation, Food Stamps, VA Benefits, and other public benefits to which their clients are legally entitled.
Its Senior Citizens Department also provides legal counsel and representation to Collier County residents 60 years of age or older in all general civil law matters.
Immigration Assistance:
Their Immigration Unit assists immigrants who are victims of domestic violence
Victims of human trafficking and victims of other violent crimes to obtain legal immigration status.
They also represent abused, abandoned or neglected immigrant children in their applications for legal permanent residence.
In addition, their lawyers fight for clients with meritorious defences such as adjustment, cancellation and political asylum in removal proceedings.
They also represent GST claimants who are temporarily unable to return safely to their home country due to unsafe or unsafe conditions.
Foreclosure Defense:
In response to the overwhelming foreclosure crisis that began in 2008, legal aid provides legal assistance to eligible people who are in foreclosure or close to foreclosure.
