New Mexico is a private, non-profit organization that protects, promotes, and extends the rights of people with disabilities in New Mexico.
Established in 1979 and authorized by federal law and an Executive Order of the Governor, the DRNM is the only state legal center for people with disabilities.
Each year, following public hearings and comments, the DRNM sets priorities for the cases and disability issues it will address.
People with disabilities can be denied services or discriminated against; their rights can be violated; they can be victims of abuse or neglect.
They can negotiate on behalf of an individual to solve these problems, or support their own self-promotion efforts.
In some cases, they may represent persons with disabilities at hearings or in court.
