The mission of Legal Aid of East Tennessee is to provide a wide range of civil legal assistance and advocacy and to ensure equal justice for the elderly, abused, and low-income people.
LAET provides civil legal services ranging from information and advice to complex litigation and appeal advocacy to low-income people.
It presents a wide variety of law-related topics to low-income groups, nonprofits, and others in the community through its Speaker's Office. As part of its community education and outreach efforts, LAET also maintains the display of informational pamphlets in courts throughout eastern Tennessee.
LAET has special programs for seniors and victims of domestic violence that, due to the eligibility of the source of funding, can be provided to individuals who have income and/or assets exceeding the restrictions on most of their LAET services also funds and staffs Pro Bono Projects that recruit, support and use volunteer lawyers and other professionals to enable them to expand services.
